Made to last
Your hat has been handmade from vintage towels - but it is made with skill and integrity, and is therefore sturdy and ready to be lived in!
Washing
Washing will not damage the integrity of your hat. We don’t advise washing too often, as this will fade and wear down the fabric, just like any other item of clothing. So spot clean for as long as you can.
However, your hat will no doubt accumulate makeup and sweat and ocean water with use. So when it does need a wash, we recommend washing as you would a normal towel - in the machine, on cool or warm.
Stains
If you have stains to remove, use your preferred stain remover pre wash - and mix it with some dishwashing liquid for oily stains.
Drying
Dry your hat as you would a towel. We like to mostly air dry, then pop it in a warm dryer at the end, to fluff it up and soften the pile.
Reshaping
What you will now have is a clean and soft hat, but that is looking a little flat and out of shape, and maybe showing some dangle fringe threads. Now it’s time to reshape.
You can do this with a hot iron and lots of steam. This will restrengthen the brim, and reshape the crown. Iron the brim against the ironing board, the steam will reactivate the stiffness of the brim. For the crown, we like to ball up another towel inside the hat to provide a round structure to iron around.
Finishing
Once you have your fresh hat ready, you might want to trim the fringe back to a regular length. For this, use small sharp scissors.
Over time, the ink on the Re/lax Remade label will fade. If this bothers you, we are happy to provide a replacement label any time.
